Centre for Women in Development (CEWODE) is a non-profiting, non-governmental, Women’s organization actively engaged in protecting women’s rights and working to empower them to upgrade their quality of life. CEWODE members include women, women’s groups and organizations that are dedicated and committed to address the issues of discrimination, exploitation and inequality faced by Uganda women.
CEWODE believes that violation of women’s civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights, in formal and informal institutions, perpetuates vicious cycle of violence against them. Guided by rights based integrated and feminist approaches, CEWODE work encompasses policy advocacy, networking, capacity building and developing women’s agencies. CEWODE works with duty bearers at all levels to create support mechanisms to promote access to justice, peace, good governance for women and girls
CEWODE envisions a society where all women are aware of their rights and live dignified lives
To empower women through increasing women’s participation in decision-making processes, access to justice, reduction of gender-based violence, promotion and protection women’s rights and influencing policy.
To promote gender equality and enhance women’s agency and power for the realization of their political, economic, social and cultural rights.
To empower Women through agency building
To address violence against women and enhance access to justice
To promote women’s rights and women’s participation in decision-making processes, judicial services and income generating activities
To advocate for laws and policies that address challenges faced by women like discrimination, inequity, prejudice and injustices
To enhance collaborations, partnerships and network with different women’s Organizations working to empower women
As an active women’s organization working for women’s rights, CEWODE focuses its programs on promoting women’s legal rights, increasing access to support and justice mechanisms for victims of violence, improving access to sexual and reproductive health services, campaigning against violence like “anti-rape campaign”, “stop child marriage”, “economic, social and cultural rights campaign”
CEWODE’s structure is comprised of General Assembly, the Advisory Board and the Executive Board. The Executive Director heads the Secretariat. She reports directly to the Advisory and Executive Boards. The Executive Director is supported by three senior staff namely Documentation and Communications Manager, Finance and Administration Manager and Program Manager. These are also supported by other professional women as per the structure below
